As part of a dynamic Business Banking Team, this position is generally responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a Commercial Loan and Deposit Portfolio, including responsibility for the competent management of an assigned portfolio of Commercial accounts.

 

Regular and frequent contact is maintained with other account managers, management, and support staff.  This position must develop and maintain a positive working relationship with all employees as well as Servus’s membership.

 

External contact is maintained with existing business members, lawyers, accountants, appraisers, prospective new clients, and contacts developed and cultivated through marketing activities.

 

The most important decisions required are those relative to the establishment and implementation of effective marketing strategies directed to acquiring new commercial loan and deposit business.  This also includes the submission of well-documented and supported written recommendations of new loan proposals for approval.  Additionally, important decisions are required with respect to day-to-day administration of an assigned number of commercial loan and deposit accounts.

 

The authorities delegated to this position include credit approval and delegation of limits, branch expenditure approvals, cheque approvals and the signing of primaries within established limits, subject to the Manager Business Banking approval.

 

Principal Duties

·        Develop marketing initiatives and network referrals leading to the subsequent development of written applications for credit to be reviewed within established approval authorities either within the Southside Banking Centre, Credit Department, and/or the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation.

·        Administration of an assigned portfolio of team loan and deposit accounts carried at the Southside Banking Centre including reviews on a regular basis in accordance with established guidelines.

·        The development and submission of renewal applications, the preparation of consolidated information for reporting purposes to the Manager Business Banking as required and to ensure negotiable or non-negotiable collateral security is obtained and maintained in accordance with the terms of authorized credits.

·        Develop a close marketing relationship with the Managers of assigned branches ensuring all opportunities to enhance the business portfolio as well as the business of all existing and new members are explored.

·        Actively promote and pursue opportunities with the business community through association with, or membership in organizations such as the local Chamber of Commerce and various community service groups, etc.

·        Provide input to the Manager Business Banking on the development of loan policies and procedures when required.  Respond promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries and requests made by members and staff.

·        Assist the Manager Business Banking in providing advice and counsel to more junior staff members.

Essential knowledge and skills include:

·        Minimum of three years commercial lending experience is required.

·        A grade XII education supplemented by a business degree and/or agriculture diploma.

·        Demonstrated marketing skills, effective analytical abilities and elemental knowledge of portfolio management acquired through previous experience and training.

·        Sound communication (verbal and written) and demonstrated interpersonal skills are required to effectively interact with members and staff.

·        A commitment to fostering community relations is important for long term success in this position. An understanding of the credit union philosophy is definitely an asset.
