Ian knows the importance of being a steadfast partner. As the President and CEO of Alberta Central, an organization that serves Alberta credit unions, Ian understands that being proactive, responsive and committed to credit union system advancement goes without saying. That’s why he believes in ongoing collaboration to make sure that the strategic solutions Alberta Central provides to members truly make sense. He recognizes that when the Alberta Central executive team, employees and board work together, we can all achieve success. Ian joined Alberta Central in 2018 to encourage excellence in member service and engagement and is committed to always evolving and improving in his role.
 

As President and CEO, Ian leads the organization in establishing current and long-range goals and works to ensure strategic objectives and operational targets are achieved. Previously, Ian served as CEO of the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA), where he focused on revitalizing the mandate and direction of the association. He has more than twenty years of banking, retail finance, telecommunications and executive management experience across multiple highly regulated industries and has a strong portfolio of governance and regulatory work. Ian always strives to empower his team and encourage them to bring forward their ideas.

Ian holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Regina as well as an Institute of Corporate Directors Designation from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Chief People and Corporate Services Officer

When Susan joined Alberta Central ten years ago, she wanted an opportunity to challenge herself in an environment that was open to change and had a strong sense of community. With more than 24 years’ experience in human resources, Susan was looking specifically for an organization that would enable her to build a strong value proposition for why people should join and stay at a company.
 

As the Chief People and Corporate Services Officer for Alberta Central, being successful in her role means balancing business needs with the needs of the people. By creating programs that allow employees to contribute and develop themselves at the same time, Susan in known for being an authentic leader with a good sense of humour (and not one to take herself too seriously). Susan also provides executive leadership to communications, strategy and project management, and facilities in her Corporate Services role and has dedicated herself to creating a high performing organization with engaged employees, resulting in accolades including being named a Top 70 Employer.

Susan also has considerable experience on boards both within the system and the private sector. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology from the University of Calgary and has held her Certified Human Resources Professional designation since 1999.

Michael Devlin

With global work experience in payments, Michael has a unique perspective on both the history and future of payment trends, including those in the fintech sphere. His strong desire to join Alberta Central was born out of these experiences.

Michael is an accomplished executive with more than 20 years of global payments expertise spanning North America, the United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan, Europe and Australia.  Michael most recently served as the President and Chief Revenue Officer of a fintech payment company and has held executive positions with Associated Foreign Exchange, Jameson Bank, Visa, MasterCard and Wells Fargo Financial. 
 
Honoured and recognized twice by the Wilfrid Laurier MBA program, Michael received the Alumni of the Year award in 2017 for his ongoing work in the payments industry, including the  launch of contactless payments in Canada, and received the Alumni Award for Community Leadership in 2014 for his charitable efforts and encouraging others to take philanthropic leadership roles in the community.
 
Michael received a Master of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto.

Anne Gillespie

When Anne joined Alberta Central, she was looking specifically for a challenge and an opportunity to be part of a team that could make a positive difference. That was more than 10 years ago, and today she still finds her work complex, but interesting. Bringing high standards to her role as Chief Financial and Governance Officer, Anne has a genuine interest in building consensus and finding solutions that benefit all credit unions.

Anne started at Alberta Central as Controller and has held various positions of increasing responsibility across the organization. In her current role, she is responsible for accounting, budgeting and financial reporting. She is also the Corporate Secretary, responsible for the governance portfolio and board relationship, and the designated Privacy Officer for Alberta Central. Her previous experience includes time as Chief Financial Officer for a private economic consulting firm and as a Senior Principal with KPMG. She is focused on results and brings critical reasoning and conceptual thinking to the executive table. Compassionate and with strong character, she is genuinely interested in enabling others to succeed.

Anne holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D).

Kate joined Alberta Central because she knows credit unions are unlike any other financial institution out there. For her, the credit union governance model is a unique and important value proposition and she believes the system is at its best when collaborating and solving problems together.
 

With experience working in federal politics, for the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions and within the credit union systems in British Columbia and Ontario, Kate’s background gives her the ability to view issues from multiple perspectives and to represent the interests of Alberta credit unions with government, system partners and other centrals. Responsible for credit union relations, she is dedicated to developing and maintaining strong working relationships with all stakeholders and always keeps members top-of-mind. A continuous learner, Kate is driven to achieve results and challenge the status quo as she leads the audit services, risk management and market research teams.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Queen’s University and a Masters of Public Policy and Public Administration from Ryerson University. Kate also holds an Institute of Corporate Directors Designation (ICD) and a Masters Certificate in Risk Management and Business Performance from York University.

Sean believes that credit unions are changing the world. That they serve an important social purpose by putting people before profits and members’ interests ahead of the bottom line. Further, because they put their revenues back into serving more members, he knows that he is part of a growing system that will continue to do great things in the future. Sean joined Alberta Central because he sees the important role it plays in ensuring that credit unions are positioned for success.

As Chief Investment Officer since 2012, Sean provides oversight to Alberta Central’s financial activities. He has the business acumen and credit union expertise required to lead a team that provides a wide array of financial products and services to credit unions and manages nearly $3 billion in credit union funds along with the corresponding loans and investments that those funds are placed in. In addition, he is one of two executives leading payments modernization work currently underway. He prides himself on the role he and his team play in helping credit unions build strong capital foundations that will ensure their increasing prominence in Alberta’s future financial landscape. With more than 17 years of executive-level experience – and 11 of those in credit unions – Sean has led teams in the areas of finance, accounting, technology and deposit-taking and lending operations. He possesses a deep understanding of credit unions and brings a strategic perspective to all that he does.

A thoughtful and results-oriented leader, Sean holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and a Masters of Business Administration from York University’s Schulich School of Business.
