Ian Glassford

Secretary

Ian Glassford

Secretary

For Ian, his role with Alberta Central’s board is an opportunity to address a unique challenge – how to get the wide range of credit unions from across Alberta to work together. Solutions are needed provincially and nationally to see the continuation of a diverse system. He believes that cooperatives have the potential to address many of the world’s problems that result from profit maximizing models, but believes it is up to those working at credit unions to realize that potential.

As a member of the board since 2009, Ian has extensive experience in credit unions and financial services and a good working knowledge of the cooperative system and the regulation of financial institutions. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Servus Credit Union, but is set to retire May 30, 2018. Over his 20 years with Servus has managed marketing, human resources, accounting and wealth management teams (among others).

“Success in this space does not come easy, so the work is always challenging. But when it works, it is worth it.”
 – Ian Glassford

Prior to joining the credit union system, he worked as a Foreign Exchange and Money Market trader for Royal Trust and he previously served as a member of the board for Credential Financial Inc., a Canadian investment dealer. Ian is inquisitive and persistent about learning, and is not really bothered by looking foolish if that is what it takes to satisfy his curiosity. He holds his Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and is a Certified Management Accountant. A self-described eccentric, Ian admits to being vocal when he is passionate about something.
